About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog.

This is the first blog entry, and I’ll be honest, it is identical to my “About Me” page. I figured, I should introduce myself and state as best I can what my goal is here.

I am an over the road self employed truck driver who has always had a fascination with the power of the stock market. I work 70+ hours a week, 2-4 weeks straight without going home and seeing my wonderful family. I work hard, but am getting tired of not being able to relax and spend quality time with my loved ones. I am a husband and father of three wonderful kids who are almost adults themselves.

This blog is intended to be a documentation of my path to financial (semi) independence. I have made a goal to retire in 15 years with absolutely zero (0) debt. My wife and I desire to live on the gulf coast of Florida. I also desire to have built up a dividend portfolio that will generate sufficient income to cover the day to day living expenses (utilities, food, gas, etc).

This blog is NOT intended to be financial advice, I am sure I will make mistakes, blunders, and assorted gaffs and goofs. Please do not construe anything I post as coming from a trained professional. I am a beginner, a novice, student, and neophyte. I already tried doing some swing and day trading, but lacking sufficient capital (At least 6 figures to start) to effectively trade, I realized rather quickly, that is not the path I can follow.

So, with that being said, on June 11, 2018 I opened an account on M1-Finance. I had tried several other sites/apps (Stash, Acorns, Betterment, & Robinhood), but did not find the flexibility, ability to control investments, ability to male partial share purchases, etc. M1 Finance allows me to create “pies” of stocks and ETFs. In effect, I can create my own personal Mutual Fund of stocks and ETFs. I control what, how much, how often, and when I make purchases. My purchases are in whole dollar amount to the account. When a trade happens, it is split amongst the various stocks and ETFs based on percentages I set. I can sell investments and modify the “pie” when I want. There is more to the site, but I won’t go into all of it right now.

Welcome to my blog and my journey. Wish me luck; hopefully by this time in 2033 I’ll be sitting on a beach in Florida, drinking a frozen margarita without a care in the world!

About TruckerDerek

I am a self employed truck driver. I haul freight across the 48 contiguous states. I have always been fascinated by the power of the stock market. I have made a personal goal to be financially independent within 15 years (That will be June of 2033), at which time I will be retired at the ripe age of 61 (give or take a year). I plan to be debt free, and have saved enough money in dividend producing investments so that my wife and I will not have to work and will be able to live a comfortable life.
